A man has been charged with vehicular homicide after a pedestrian struck last week in Goodlettsville recently died.
The victim was hit the night of February 24 in front of Rivergate Mall in Goodlettsville.
The person was rushed to an area hospital with critical injuries, but died recently from a severe head wound.
The driver, identified as James Owings, was initially charged with vehicular assault and his third DUI offense.
However, those charges have been upgraded to vehicular homicide.
According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, he had just left a sports bar after a night of drinking and got behind the wheel of his van.
Police said he was talking on his phone, felt a bump and heard a thud. Owings stayed at the scene until police arrived.
The 44-year-old was booked on an $80,000 bond.
