A man has been arrested on multiple charges, including vehicular homicide.

Authorities with the Metro Nashville Police Department said they took 37-year-old Demond Maurice Buchanan into custody Friday afternoon on a multi-count grand jury indictment.

According to reports, he was arrested inside a room at a motel on Atrium Way. Officials said they also found baggies of crack cocaine, heroin, marijuana, digital scales, and a loaded pistol in the room.

Several charges against Buchanan stemmed from an incident on May 2, 2015 when he was driving a Chevrolet Camaro at a speed that was believed to be in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Buchanan was traveling on 40th Avenue North west of Nashville near Albion Street when he hit an SUV, left the road, and struck a brick building.

His front seat passenger, identified as 37-year-old Marlon Burnett, was killed in the crash.

Authorities said Buchanan was hospitalized with serious injuries. They added a loaded pistol, cash, and marijuana were found inside the Camaro.

Buchanan has been charged with vehicular homicide, aggravated assault, and unlawful gun and marijuana possession. He had additional charges from the items found in his room during his arrest.

Officials added he also had previous convictions for aggravated assault, cocaine possession, unlawful gun possession by a felon, aggravated burglary, and evading arrest.

Buchanan was being held in lieu of a $419,000 bond.
