Police ID Man Killed On I-40 In Bellevue

Police have identified the man who died in a late-night crash along an entrance ramp of Interstate 40.

The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday, not far from the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and I-40 in Bellevue. 

Officials with Metro Nashville Police said 63-year-old James E. Montgomery lost control on the on-ramp and crashed into a ditch. The vehicle came to rest on its side. 

Montgomery was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died. 

Police said he was wearing a seatbelt. 

For majority of the night, police remained on the scene. The wreck was finally cleared after a nearly four hour investigation.

Toxicology testing would be conducted to determine if alcohol played a role in the crash.
