Authorities confirmed a fugitive was taken into custody for outstanding warrants, but not before he stole a senior citizen’s truck.
Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said 22-year-old Kevin Michael Tidwell had warrants out for vehicle theft, auto burglary, and vandalism.
Then on Thursday, police said Tidwell stole a pickup truck from 72-year-old Donald Green.
Authorities said Green was tilling a field with his 96-year-old father on Glenrose Avenue. Nearby, Tidwell had been hiding in a wood line from police. That’s when Tidwell ran to Green’s truck, started it, and swerved toward Green.
Authorities confirmed Green has a handgun carry permit, so he fired at his oncoming truck. Tidwell then sped away, drove to West Nashville, and attempted to flee on foot behind a busy shopping center near Interstate 40, Charlotte Pike, and Cabot Drive.

The stolen vehicle was abandoned in the parking lot. Police said many witnesses contacted them saying Tidwell was seen running in that area.
The search for Tidwell briefly closed Interstate 40 when he attempted to take over a vehicle on the interstate.

Tidwell then fled on foot into the woods near Cabot Drive. A police helicopter and gang unit detectives helped tighten the perimeter.
Authorities took Tidwell into custody between an embankment and an auto repair business.
In addition to his outstanding warrants, Tidwell was also facing a series of new charges for what police called his reckless actions.
