Members of the Franklin community met to discuss race relations in the city.
Thursday night, they discussed things such as the Black Lives Matter movement, police-community relations in Franklin, and police brutality after the recent officer shootings in Louisiana and Dallas.
"These meetings are very important to help ease tensions and to bring about greater trust between city officials, the police, and the community,” said Reverend Kenneth Hill. “The next step would be to carry these conversations across the state of Middle Tennessee to reduce those tensions."
Reverend Hill commended the Franklin police for their training in de-escalation circumstances and culture diversity training.
Those with the police department have planned to hold a picnic Saturday, July 30, so that officers and community members can get to know each other.
