Friends and colleagues have been set to remember longtime political lobbyist John Jay Hooker.

Hooker passed away in January after a year-long battle with melanoma cancer.

He worked in President John F. Kennedy's administration in 1961 and was also special assistant to Attorney General Bobby Kennedy.

He later became one of more recognizable and colorful characters in Tennessee politics.

More recently, he'd tried to push for the state to adopt a death with dignity law.

In November, the Tennessee Supreme Court announced it would not hear Hooker's request for an appeal in his right to die case. He was 85.

Saturday, a memorial has been planned at the Nashville Public Library in the Grand Reading Room.

Visitation with family and friends has been scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and remarks will be made at 2 p.m.
