An officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities said negotiators responded to the South Nashville apartment of 31-year-old Officer Jonathan Perez early Sunday morning.
Officials said they went after they received information from a crisis hotline.
According to reports, officials could not make contact with Perez during a barricade, so they made entry.
He was found dead around 9:30 a.m.
Police said Perez had been decommissioned on March 29 after being charged with misdemeanor stalking. The charged allegedly stemmed from him continuously contacting a co-worker he had previously been dating.
Authorities said Perez was a five-year veteran of the police department.
