NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police have identified the 16-year-old who was shot and killed while fleeing gunfire in Nashville.
The incident happened Sunday night on South 8th Street at James A. Cayce Homes.
Witnesses said shots were fired from a group of young men toward another group in the courtyard around 8:20 p.m.
According to officials, 16-year-old Deberianah Begley was sitting on a porch and hit by gunfire as she was trying to run for cover.
She was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died.
Police said they’re trying to identify anyone who was a part of either group engaged in the gunfire that killed her. It's possible the shooting was caught on surveillance camera.
This was the second time an innocent teenage girl has been shot and killed this year at the James Cayce Homes. In March, a 19-year-old girl was shot and killed in the crossfire next door to where Deberianah Begley was killed Sunday night.
