A suspect who allegedly fled officers during a traffic stop was found in a storm drain after he got stuck there during a foot chase.
In a Tweet Wednesday morning, Mt. Juliet Police said a suspect fled officers during traffic stop in area of Interstate 40 near Beckwith Road and Eastgate Boulevard.
Police pulled 32-year-old Michael Shaw over around 8:20 a.m. for allegedly speeding; however, he jumped out of the Chevrolet Equinox and took off running towards I-40.
A female passenger stayed behind in the SUV. Her name was not known.
From there, officers tracked him to the area of Belinda City. Alert citizens saw him around 9:15 a.m. and called police.
During the chase, Shaw climbed into a storm drain that runs underneath Rolling Meadow Drive. Inside, he apparently got stuck and had to be extricated from the drain.
Using crowbars, officers lifted the grate and took Shaw into custody. He wasn’t hurt.
Shaw was charged with driving on suspended, his 4th offense and evading arrest. Police said he was also wanted out of Henderson County for a Violation of Community Corrections warrant.
