Around 50 million Americans suffer with an autoimmune disease. Now, a Nashville-based company, IQuity, is hoping to diagnose disease faster.
Their new RNA blood test is more than 12-years in the making. IQuity worked closely with Vanderbilt University to develop the technology.
"So what is RNA?" said CEO & company founder Chase Spurlock PhD. "It's a snapshot of what's happening inside your cells at any given moment."
For patients suffering from a potential autoimmune disease like multiple sclerosis or fibromyalgia, finding out their diagnosis in a matter of days can save them frustration and get them treatment faster.
"So we're giving one more piece of information to the [doctor] as they make a diagnosis and treatment plan," said Spurlock.
IQuity's MS test just became available to doctors a couple of weeks ago. It has an accuracy higher than 90-percent.
"This level of information hasn't really been accessible to doctors. We can take a tube of blood from a patient and analyze that blood sample and then report back to a doctor if a patient's RNA profile or RNA pattern looks like a particular disease," he said.
IQuity can return results to doctors in as few as seven days. For more information on this technology, click here.
