"Severe Weather Awareness Week" has been set to kick off across Tennessee.
Saturday, the National Weather Service got things started with a Severe Weather Awareness Day at Trevecca Nazarene University.
Training was held for storm spotters. Plus, visitors got the chance to hear from multiple speakers and learn more at information booths.
“Our main mission with the National Weather Service is that we keep people safe,” said Brittney Whitehead, an NWS Meteorologist. “We do our best to send out warnings, and we do our best to educate people to make sure that they know where they can go during severe weather. Hopefully we’re saving lives by educating people so that they know what to do whenever severe weather strikes.”
Friday, TEMA announced plans to put severe weather alerts on digital billboards across the state when there is a threat.
