A Metro police officer was presented with a check to help with future medical expenses.
Officer Jeffrey Tharpe was diagnosed with a brain tumor earlier in August during a routine appointment.
Doctors told Tharpe he would need to have surgery to remove the tumor.
When the general manager of WholeSaleInc, Steve Brewster, heard about Tharpe's story he took it upon himself to help.
Saturday morning, several people gathered at WholeSaleFit gym on Gallatin Pike to surprise Tharpe with a check worth more than $5,000 to help with future medical costs.
Tharpe has had problems with his vision for the past five years.
He has continued to work since first being diagnosed and will have surgery on Tuesday, August 29.
Friends said Tharpe has been a dedicated son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and a constant support for all in need.
A gofundme account has been set up to help with Tharpe's future medical bills during his recovery.
