A Riverdale High School student has been expelled after drugs and a gun were allegedly found inside a vehicle on campus.
According to James Evans, Community Relations Coordinator with Rutherford County Schools, the student’s car was searched Wednesday morning after officials received a tip.
Authorities said marijuana and a handgun were found in the student's car.
That student was expelled and removed from the school immediately. Administrators said the teen will face multiple criminal charges.
“We want to ensure everyone that all students are safe and the school followed the safety protocols we have in place for these types of incidents,” Evans said.
Riverdale parents were soon alerted of the situation.
Anyone with questions about their children was encouraged to contact the school directly. Any questions about the criminal investigation or criminal charges should be made to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
