After receiving word of a second person testing positive for Zika in Davidson County, the health department went out in full force to spread the word and educate the masses about the disease.

Friday morning, officials with the Metro Public Health Department were out in East Nashville, where the infected individual lives, to pass out mosquito prevention and protection fliers to residents.

To be clear, this second case of local Zika was found in someone who contracted it while in Honduras.

Both of those with Zika in Davidson County have been expected to recover.

“So we're out in the East Nashville area just alerting the neighborhoods to the possibility they need to protect themselves from mosquito bites,” said Allen Hodges, of Metro Health. “Obviously we do not have any local transmission at this time, but that’s what we’re trying to avoid."

Health experts said our main mosquito in our area has been the "Dusk Biter."

So for anyone out at dusk, officials said to wear mosquito repellent, long sleeves, and pants. They added homeowners should try to get rid of standing water around houses.

The list of areas where Zika disease has been transmitted by mosquitoes included many countries in the Caribbean, as well as South and Central America.
