A pedestrian has died after being struck by a pizza delivery driver’s vehicle.
The incident happened around 7:20 p.m. Saturday on Nolensville Pike at Welshwood Drive.
Authorities said the pedestrian, identified as 60-year-old Stephen A. Moseley, died after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
According to reports, the pizza delivery driver, identified as 53-year-old Jay Jackson, was driving south in a Chevrolet Astro Van when he hit Moseley.
Jackson stopped after the impact, but police said he left the scene before officials arrived.
He told officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department he stopped to see what he hit and saw a group of people gathered around a man on the ground. He then allegedly checked on the man who he said sat up and appeared to be okay, so Jackson added he drove back to work.
Police said Jackson took the evening off of work and went to the hospital to check on Moseley who died while receiving treatment.
Authorities said Moseley was walking in the rain, crossing Nolensville Pike more than 1,000 feet from the nearest crosswalk. They added Moseley was believed to have been drinking, and he was wearing dark clothing.
Officers added it was possible Jackson did not see Moseley. Criminal charges were being evaluated against Jackson, since he left the scene of a fatal crash and failed to provide his information at the scene.
Once the investigation has ended, the District Attorney’s Office will be consulted on charges.
