Authorities confirmed AT&T was working in that area and had closed the westbound lane. A private security company had been hired to protect the work zone.
A driver leaving the Yorktown Subdivision hit a passing trailer and forced the trailer into an AT&T utility worker. That knocked the worker under an AT&T truck, seriously injuring him.
Officials said he was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
A portion of Murfreesboro Road was closed due to the collision.
Authorities with the Franklin Police Department confirmed the security company vehicles were not marked and did not have warning lights displayed.
No additional details were released.
