Person Killed After Being Hit By Car

Posted

A man was killed Monday evening when he was struck by a vehicle in Nashville.

The incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. on Charlotte Avenue and 5th Avenue North.

Police said 52-year-old Robert E. Stier was crossing the street at the time he was struck. He was not in a cross walk.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Gary Eubank, was heading east on Charlotte and had a green light when he crossed 5th Avenue.

Police said Stier was trying to cross Charlotte from north to south in the rain and was weaving in between stopped vehicles. He was 10 feet outside of a crosswalk at the time he was hit.

Witnesses told police that he was walking with a hood pulled up and his head down not looking at traffic.

Detectives said the preliminary contributing factors in the fatal crash were Stier being outside of a crosswalk and his failure to obey a pedestrian control signal.
