Police Looking To Nab Franklin Car Burglar

Posted

Police have urged residents to lock their vehicles after several, early morning vehicle burglaries were reported at two Franklin apartment complexes.

Officers with Franklin police were called to The Farms at Cool Springs around 4 a.m. Monday, after neighbors reported seeing a suspicious person in the area.

A resident reportedly saw a man, who was wearing a jacket and hoodie, crawling around vehicles in the apartment’s parking lot.

Police arrived and found that 15 vehicles had been burglarized there, as well as its neighboring complex, Ashton Brook.  None of the cars were locked.

One neighbor, Glenn Maughon, was nearly a victim himself. He believes someone tried to steal his bike overnight off of his porch but left it behind when they realized it had a flat tire.

"I was like, man, that looks a lot like my bicycle, so I walked over and looked at it and it was." He said after finding his bike laying in the grass.

Do you lock your car at night? If not, Franklin Police say you're the ideal victim for a burglary - especially if you leave valuables in your car.

A 2014 charcoal grey four-door Ford Fusion was also stolen from Ashton Brook. The car has a license plate of V3559X.

Police said the owner had left keys in the unlocked car overnight.

Evidence from the scene led police to believe the suspect lifted the door handles of several other locked cars before moving on.

Police urged residents to always lock their car doors, and remove valuables from parked vehicles.

"The police can only do so much, we can only be in so many places at one time. We have got to have a partnership from the community and have them kind of up their safety and security by locking their car doors, removing their valuables, and working with us to keep their neighborhood safe," said Lt. Charles Warner with the Franklin Police Department.

A reward of up to $1,000 has been offered for information in the case. You can call to Crime Stoppers:(615) 794-4000 or send eTips here.
