An overturned tractor trailer has shut down an exit ramp to Shelby Avenue.
Officials said the wreck happened just before 7 a.m. Thursday in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 24 at Exit 49 for Shelby Avenue.
According to a preliminary report, the truck was going too fast coming off the ramp. Officials said the semi was loaded to capacity, hit the guardrail, and overturned.
Scrap vehicles and metal flew out of the semi, damaging two other vehicles.
Authorities confirmed cleanup would take hours, and officers had to block both ramps.
Westbound traffic was not experiencing any delays, while the off-ramp was blocked to eastbound drivers.
Crews with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said the roadway was cleared around noon.
