He's no stranger to the inside of a jail cell, and now a well-known Nashville-area scammer has been placed back behind bars.
Around 9:15 p.m. Saturday, police picked up Paul Aniel yet again on the side of the interstate asking people for money. Officials said his actions have been placing drivers in danger.
Records showed Aniel's been in and out of jail since 2003, and a lot of those arrests have been for the exact same crime of panhandling: flagging people down on the side of the interstate and making up a story to get the driver to hand over cash.
In the past he's been accused of waving down drivers in Davidson and Wilson counties and claiming to be partially deaf.
Aniel would tell people he's a traveling salesman from Knoxville and needs gas money to get back.
Sometimes, he has asked for the person's home address to send $1,000 as a thank you gift.
Aniel has admitted to doing this as a form of income.
