About 1,800 family members of fallen heroes were sent to Texas on an all-expense-paid vacation, and some of them have called Middle Tennessee home.
Sunday morning, those families checked in for their flight to Dallas-Fort Worth, and they got a big sendoff.
It was all part of a non-profit organization called "Snowball Express."
American Airlines chipped in on most of the travel costs, and the non-profit planned out a trip where these families can make new memories.
It's also about honoring their loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“With losing a loved one, there's always that void at Christmas, and we love to call it snowball families because we are. We’re one big family,” said Angie Hahn, of Smyrna.
