Special Murals Commissioned At Local School

Posted

Some local artists were commissioned to help paint special murals at a local elementary school.

The Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee brought some of their members to Ruby Major Elementary in Hermitage to paint three separate murals Thursday afternoon.

Executive Director Alecia Talbott said it's much more than just painting.

“I think a lot of times people assume that individuals with Down syndrome aren't capable of doing certain things, and it's important for us to give them the opportunity to explore and see what kinds of things they can do, but also to show the community that individuals with Down syndrome are far more like their typical peers than different,” Talbott said.

The mural designs were all created by local artist Zoey Little who was there to help the participants paint.
