A man was shot downtown during Nashville's "Let Freedom Sing!" fireworks show, and police said the bullet likely came from blocks away.

Reports stated the man, identified as 48-year-old Paul Lickteig, of Michigan, was at 5th Avenue and Broadway when he was hit by a stray bullet around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Lickteig said he felt something hit his chest and initially thought someone had hit him with a water bottle until he saw blood. Doctors said the bullet hit Lickteig's chest in a downward trajectory. He was treated and released from the hospital Wednesday morning.

Authorities said it’s believed the bullet was from celebratory gunfire someone shot into the sky, and they added the shooter was likely blocks away.

Lickteig and his wife said they did not hear a gunshot or see anyone with a weapon.

Police said surveillance footage did not show any evidence of gunfire.
