The man accused of killing 7-year-old Gabbi Doolin appeared before a judge for the first time since January on Wednesday, as the small town rocked by the little girl's murder learned it could be another year before a trial date is set.
Timothy Madden spoke little inside court.
His attorney told the judge that he had only received discovery evidence from the commonwealth attorney on Tuesday and it could take him months to review it.
The judge ordered that all video and pictures obtained during the investigation into Gabbi's death be kept under seal due to the sensitive nature of the material.
"This is a very serious case for everyone involved," defense attorney Travis Lock told attorneys.
Gabbi's family also spoke for the first time in months to the media following Wednesday's brief court hearing.
"I just want justice, I want the truth. As far as what that truth is I don't know .. I believe that the state of Kentucky will prove what happened and make sure justice is served for Gabbi," her first cousin Lori Doolin Wilson told reporters.
Madden will be back in court on September 7.
