If you've ever wanted to solve a heist or make a break for it, escape games were made for you. The craze has been spreading world-wide and has shown no signs of slowing down. Now, one of Nashville's original companies, The Escape Game, has been busy building a puzzle-room empire.
"The challenge, people want to be challenged. That's what we've seen with our customers. That feeling when you escape. You just want to feel it again," said Teddy Cheek, Marketing & Brand Director for The Escape Game.
They're not for the claustrophobic or the faint of heart, but if you want to test your wits, real life-escape games are the perfect challenge.
The Escape Game Nashville started off with two locations.
"It's taken off really fast," said Cheek.
Now the company is in seven U.S. cities.
"Orlando, Austin, Pigeon Forge, Chicago, Dallas, just opened in the Mall of America," he said.
Players have 60-minutes to solve whatever puzzle room they're stuck in, but before players find themselves exploring elaborate sets, carpenters and designers spend months constructing them from scratch.
"It really starts [in Nashville] with a concept. They build all the props and pieces," he said.
Cheek took NewsChannel 5 behind-the-scenes to The Escape Game workshop in Nashville, where they're busy working on one of their most popular concepts, a Music City mystery.
"Nashville is one of our first games. We're giving it a little bit of a renovation right now. Locals and tourists both really like having something that's unique to the city and ties in. You're in a studio, you're finding a record contract. It's a lot of fun," he said.
