Thousands Attend 35th Mt. Juliet Pow Wow

Posted

Many Native American tribes from near and far came together in Middle Tennessee.

Thousands were expected to participate this weekend in the 35th annual Mt. Juliet Pow Wow.

The weekend was filled with many vendors, kids activities, and food and music, but one hot topic many were talking about was the Dakota Access Pipeline.

The billion dollar pipeline is supposed to offer a safer way to carry oil, but many on reservations along the line have disagreed.

"We're not against energy, please understand that. We all need that, but it's the fact that environmentally it's coming right across a portion of the reservation which potentially has damage written all over it to the environment and water supply,” said Rob Daugherty.

The pow wow was scheduled to continue Sunday from 10:30 a.m. through 5 p.m.
