Thousands Of Spiders Infest Memphis Neighborhood

Posted

Thousands of spiders have infested a North Memphis neighborhood, prompting a free extermination service and inciting arachnophobia in neighbors.

Residents tell media the spiders suddenly began appearing Thursday. They noticed what looked to be a piece of plastic stretched between telephone poles, but was actually a long continuous web measuring a distance of at least two football fields. With that web came thousands of spiders.

Neighbors reported their pest problem to local media. Pest control company Terminix offered their services to the neighborhood free of charge. Terminix workers treated the area Tuesday afternoon.

Terminix representative James Robinson believes the spiders were blown toward the homes from a nearby field. The company says the critters are likely either the grass spider or wolf spider. Neither poses a danger to humans.
