Officials with Metro Nashville Police said the semi was hauling 500 bales of cotton when it overturned in the roadway.
It was the third tractor trailer this month to wreck in the area.
One of the cotton bales rolled down the embankment into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
Debris was scattered along the interstate, forcing lanes to be shut down for hours. At this time, the left lane remained blocked.
Police said the truck driver was injured and taken to an area hospital.
Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation estimated the wreck to be cleared by 10 a.m.
