Volunteers Needed As 'Victims' For Disaster Exercise

Posted

Officials have asked for volunteers to portray victims for an emergency disaster exercise.

Those with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and Tennessee Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters have planned the exercise to show where key resources have been activated to assist with community recovery.

A Volunteer Reception Center and a Point of Distribution have been planned for 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 23. They will be held at the American Legion Post 88 in the 2800 block of Elm Hill Pike in Donelson and will operate as if a real disaster has taken place.

Those with TNVOAD said they’re in need of volunteers to play victims of the fake disaster who would also like to learn more about how they can actually work in a disaster to help survivors.

“This is a rare opportunity to learn what to expect if you are a survivor of a disaster and what resources are available to help get you through that time,” said David Sledge, TNVOAD executive committee member. “There will be several TNVOAD organizations participating at this event so volunteers will also be helping these organizations practice for a real event.”
