Metro Animal Care and Control has announced a “Clear the Shelter" adoption event where adoption fees are waived through May 21.
Officials with the shelter said the shelter was at capacity with more than 200 pets up for adoption
“As the temperatures rise, so do the numbers of animals coming into our shelter everyday.” Rebecca Morris with Metro Animal Care and Control said. “That can be anywhere from 30 to 40 animals on any given day coming through the shelter.”
On average, pets remain in the shelter for 22 days before being adopted, and now the problem is the shelter is collecting more animals than it is adopting out.
“if you’ve been thinking about adding a pet to your home, now’s the time, we need your help.” Morris said.
While the shelter has mostly dogs, they are also waiving the adoption fee for cats at the shelter.
All pets adopted will be spayed and neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.
