GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Macy's located in the Rivergate Mall in Goodlettsville is closing.
According to Macy's officials, a clearance sale will begin in January and run for about 8 to 12 weeks.
They said the decision to close the store was a difficult one.
"Macy’s is proud to have served the Goodlettsville community over the past 49 years, and we look forward to continuing to do so at nearby Macy’s stores including Macy’s Green Hills, Macy’s Cool Springs and online," said Lauren Vocelle Manager, Media Relations - South Region.
In an era where you can buy anything with the click of your finger, shopping malls are taking a hit.
"Malls in general in the U.S. are trending in different ways and online sales impact that differently," said Tim Ellis, city manager of Goodlettsville.
Rivergate representatives tell us Macy's owns their respective building and parking lot. They have reached out to Macy's corporate to explore future plans of the property but haven't gotten answers on what their finalized plans are going to be.
City manager Tim Ellis says he's choosing to look at the positives.
"This only gives us further opportunity for further redevelopment," Ellis said, "we can bring in something bigger and brighter than what's there currently or was there in the past."
The city manager adds Macy's will likely be closed by March.
