NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — House of Cards is one of the most unique restaurants in Nashville. Located beneath the Johnny Cash Museum, there are playing card and magic artifacts gracing the walls, there is a dress code, no pictures, and magicians that perform awe-inspiring tricks throughout the venue.
“It feels like you’re off in a distant land,” Joey Martinez, Director of Operations and Entertainment at House of Cards, said. “You have some great drinks, excellent dinner, and the world’s greatest magicians performing for you.”
While anyone over the age of 21 is invited if they meet the dress code and make reservations (and younger audiences are invited to join for Sunday brunch), it’s a hot spot for date nights, with an atmosphere perfect for a romantic evening.
Some people have even decided to propose at House of Cards, and they’ve been able to do it with the help of magicians performing at the venue.
“When people want a surprise a proposal, they come to us, and we do it in a magical way that will be unforgettable for the rest of their lives,” Martinez said.
Magicians are great at making cards, doves, bowling balls, and numerous other objects appear, and they can do the same thing for a ring, creating a proposal experience that will never be forgotten.
For Martinez, he said it’s a perfect pairing: Love and magic. “When you fall in love or when you’re in love, you get those butterflies in your stomach, can’t stop thinking about what’s coming up next, and it’s almost magical – there’s no explanation to it. And here, with magic involved, we marry those two together.”
Proposals don’t happen every night at House of Cards, but when they do happen, it’s always a special thing to experience.
“I saw a lady one time, she broke down in tears as soon as he dropped to the knees, and that magical ring appeared, and it’s truly amazing. Every time I see a proposal, I feel it in here,” Martinez said, pointing to his heart. “It brings a tear to my eye, to know that magic still exists, that love still exists, and that we can give that gift to somebody.”
