PORTLAND, Tenn. - A small diner in Maine is at the center of a swirling controversy online after the owner faced off with a customer's screaming child.
Darla Neugebauer said the 2-year-old had been screaming for nearly 40 minutes, while her parents allegedly did nothing. Neugebauer said she'd had enough.
"I turned around, slammed both hands on the counter and then pointed at the child and said 'this has got to stop,'” she said.
The child's parents were so upset they posted a complaint on Facebook, which has now been shared more than 2-million times, including by other angry parents who said they'll never eat there again.
However, Neugebauer said she isn't backing down.
"I'm sad about that because it's their loss,” she said.
"But you wouldn't do anything differently,” she was asked in an on camera interview.
"Absolutely not,” she said. “It's stopped her screaming and got them out and it made my other customers very happy and my staff very happy."
There has been talk of possible protests outside the diner to which Neugebauer responded, "would the demonstrators prefer pancakes or muffins?"
