Police officials say Detectives Dallas Caruth and Derek Moore went to Smith’s residence in the 1500 block of Meadow Bend Road to serve a warrant.

He didn't answer the door; so detectives got in their cruiser and began to rive away. As they left, they spotted Smith in a car driving toward the home. Detectives turned around and went back to the home.

Detective Moore went to the front door and Detective Caruth walked around to the side of the house where he saw Smith running through the backyard. Detective Caruth ordered Smith to stop, but Smith turned and fired at least four times at Detective Caruth who slipped and fell as he tried to take cover. Smith then ran away.

On Thursday morning, officers returned to Smith's home and took him into custody. During an interview, Smith admitted to knowing that the detectives were police officers and firing several times toward Caruth.
