NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A man was arrested for allegedly throwing packages over the fence of Riverbend Maximum Security Prison.

According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville police, there were 10 cell phones inside of the packages. Police said John Crawley was hoping to sell them inside the prison.

Crawley was an inmate at the jail back in June, serving a nearly 20-year sentence since February 1999.

At the time, he was on a work crew working outside of the jail. Court documents said video shows him throwing the packages over the fence.

Crawley later admitted to investigators during an interview he planned on selling them for as much as $400 per-phone.

He was officially arrested on this new charge Wednesday -- the same day he was scheduled to be released from prison.

He’s now being held on a $10,000 bond for bringing contraband inside a penal institution. He's scheduled for a review in front of a judge on Friday.
