NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Police charged 21-year-old Thomas Vaden III with felony aggravated assault in Monday's shooting of 56-year-old Randal Faulk.

The shooting happened outside of Faulk's California Avenue home. He is still in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being hit multiple times.

Information through Crime Stoppers helped officers identify Vaden as the suspect. Vaden went to the West Precinct Thursday afternoon to give a statement - early in officers' investigation of him.

He admitted to shooting Faulk after, he said, Faulk hit him first. The two men apparently did not know each other. Vaden claims he approached Faulk to ask for a light for a cigar.

Vaden’s bond was set at $25,000.
