NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A homicide investigation is underway after a man was found shot and killed outside an apartment complex off of Bell Road late Wednesday night.
A neighbor called police when she heard gunshots outside the apartments on Bell Road, near Edge O Lake Drive, before midnight.
According to investigators, the 23-year-old Denzel Hammond was found dead in the driver's seat of his car, which was in the parking lot. Police said that when he was found, the car was still in gear. Officers broke out a window of the car to pull him out and render aid. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Thursday afternoon, Metro police said two teens have been arrested in connection to Hammond's death.
Metro police said 16-year-old Suhaela Lemelle was at the scene and told officers she knew Hammond. Police said detectives learned Lemelle and 17-year-old Dracen Hughes were "handling a pistol" the night of the shooting as the pair discussed robbing Hammond.
Lemelle's apartment was later searched, and police found two guns.
Hughes and Lemelle were arrested Thursday and charged with criminal homicide. Police believe robbery was the motive in this shooting.
