WATERTOWN, Tenn. – A Wilson County man led officials on a pursuit across multiple counties in Middle Tennessee.

The incident happened shortly before midnight Saturday, in Watertown when officers tried to pull over a suspect for possible DUI.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said 33-year-old Richard Clayton Baxter fled police on Instate 40 through Wilson, Smith and Putnam Counties.

From there, he exited I-40 at Silver Point onto Highway 56. Troopers said he was stopped in DeKalb County near the Hurricane Bridge after spike strips were deployed.

Baxter was taken into custody around 3 a.m. Sunday and charged with evading arrest, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, diving on revoked/suspected/cancel driver’s license, assault and DUI.
