SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department is currently searching for a thief who is estimated to have stolen more than $71,000 worth of property from a home on Henryville Road on Saturday.
George Michael Bennett is wanted for his alleged involvement in this incident.
Sheriff's deputies arrived at the home on Henryville Road on Saturday morning where residents informed them a burglary had taken place. Among the items stolen were three Kawasaki off-road vehicles, one Honda all-terrain-vehicle, one John Deer Tractor, one Remington shotgun, a weed-eater, a utility trailer, and various hand tools.
Bennett was already wanted by police for an unrelated matter but when they arrived at his residence on Saturday evening, many of the items that had been reported as stolen in Maury county were present including two off-road vehicles, a Honda side-by-side, and a John Deer tractor.
Bennett was present at the property as well when police arrived but quickly fled into the surrounding woods when he saw officers approaching. A chase was initiated but ultimately police were unable to locate the him.
Lawrence County Sheriff, John Myers has reassured the public that his department is actively looking for Bennett.
