A 4-year-old girl was shaken up after her car was t-boned and nearly rolled over in Nashville. And among one of her rescuers was an unlikely hero: the mayor of Music City.

Mayor Megan Barry came upon the crash on her way to work last week at 17th Street and Wedgewood Avenue.

Ava Kramer, 4,  was briefly trapped in the car. Mayor Barry and her detail pulled over to help.

"The other police officer actually got her out and I sat with her until the fire department came and the ambulance came and we just chatted about her day,” said Barry. She was a little shaken up. She was really worried about her hair band.  So I went back and found her hair bow in the car and when I put it back on her it made her happy."

Luckily, the girl only suffered a bruised hip.

A few days later, Mayor Barry stopped at Eakin Elementary to check on Ava.  Her parents said they were grateful for the Mayor's kindness.

They're working with Ava to write the Mayor a thank you note. They say she's added "mayor" to her list of what she wants to be when she grows up.
