At a private ceremony, David Briley was sworn into office as mayor of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County.
The ceremony on Friday followed certification of the May 24 election results.
“As mayor, I am dedicated to an open and transparent government, to finding common ground and building trust,” Mayor Briley said. “I will build upon Nashville’s current unprecedented economic successes while improving opportunities for all Nashvillians. That includes more access to financial capital, a great education, good jobs, affordable housing, and safe neighborhoods.”
The mayor also officially resigned as Vice Mayor. Presiding over the ceremony in the Mayor’s Office was Davidson County Criminal Court Judge Angie Dalton.
Mayor Briley was joined at the ceremony by his family, friends, and staff.
An election will take place August 2 to select Nashville’s next Vice Mayor, the leader of the Metro Council. If necessary, a runoff election will be held five weeks later.
