MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A Memphis woman has been facing child abuse charges after the death of her two-year-old son.

According to WMC-TV, Raven Campbell has been charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect of a child under six years old.

Authorities said when police arrived on the scene around 11 a.m. Saturday, the child was not breathing. The toddler was taken to LeBonheur Children's Hospital where he later died.

Hospital staff noticed the child had bite marks and scratches on his body.

Campbell later admitted she was responsible for the child's injuries, and that she had covered the boy with a mattress for about 30 minutes to discipline him. When she moved the mattress, she said the child wasn't breathing.

The case remained under investigation.
