MNPD Chief Responds To Controversial Shootings

Metro Nashville Police Chief, Steve Anderson, responded to recent police-involved shootings in Baton Rouge and Minnesota with an open letter to Nashvillians.

In it, he expressed his concern over the two fatalities in which white police officers shot and killed an African American man.

However, he went on to ask the people of Nashville not to judge their own officers based on the actions of the officers involved in those killings.

"I ask Nashvillians to please not judge or associate MNPD police officers they may see on patrol, at the scene of a crime, or in a restaurant as having any association or connection to Baton Rouge or Falcon Heights," wrote Anderson.

He explained that his officers have gone through months of training and instruction to effectively communicate with all citizens.

"I have confidence in the men and women working to protect the people of this city, their moral ethic, the skills they possess, and their ability to make appropriate decisions in difficult situations," he wrote.

The letter ended by thanking the Nashville community for its support and pledging to maintain its confidence.
