NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Metro Nashville Police officer's patrol car was hit by a suspected drunk driver at the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Madison Station Boulevard.

Officials say Officer Fred Ware had the green light and was driving through the intersection on Old Hickory Boulevard when he was hit Sunday at 3:45 a.m. by a pickup truck.

Kennedy Recinos-Sales, 24, was driving the truck, and officials say he failed to stop at the red light. Recinos-Sales was treated for minor injuries and released.

Ware was on-duty and working to locate a vehicle from a shots fired call when the crash happened. He was treated and released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Officials say Recinos-Sales smelled of alcohol while at the scene and had red, watery eyes and slurred speech. They found nearly empty, open cans of beer in the pickup.

Recinos-Sales was charged with DUI, vehicular assault, driving without a license, having no proof of insurance, and an open container violation. He is being held in lieu of $19,000 bond.
