NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Police say speed and wet road conditions were the cause of a fatal crash this morning on I-24 and I-40 split east of the city.

27-year-old Joseph Jones of Hermitage was behind the wheel of a Mercury Sable when police say he attempted to get around the curve at the split to take I-40 East.

The vehicle went off the roadway and hit a rock wall. Jones, who was wearing his seat belt, died at the scene.

Police say there was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene.

The intersection was closed for most of the morning.
