NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A mother has been arrested after she allegedly hid narcotics in her child’s bag of Animal Crackers.

Officials with Metro police said Cynthia Rodriguez was found staggering in an alley off Douglas Avenue, not far from East Nashville.

An officer saw a man and a toddler in a car in what appeared to be a drug deal. Another officer stopped the car a short distance later after the driver ran a stop sign.

Police said Rodriguez was holding a small child who was eating Animal Crackers out of a baggie. Inside, officers said they found three full and two partial bars of Xanax mixed in with the child’s snacks.

Rodriguez also allegedly tried to stop officers from getting the baggie.

According to an affidavit, she told them she was a great mom and was taking her child to the hospital, although she could not say which one.

Police said she was staggering and had slurred speech. She was taken into custody and charged with child endangerment.

The child was placed into the care of DCS. It does not appear the toddler ate any of the pills, but is under observation.
