The mother of a Ft. Campbell soldier hit and killed on a Pleasant View highway in October said officials in Cheatham County have mishandled the investigation into her son's death.
Austin McGeough was 21-years-old when he was hit and killed on Highway 41A in Pleasant View, the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office initially said Austin was being chased by bees after leaving a nearby house party, moments prior to being hit.
"They stated over and over that he was chased by bees and stung and the autopsy is back and my son had no bee stings," says Austin's mother Kim Read.
At the time officials also said Austin was hallucinating, drunk and high on pain medication, but his mother says toxicology reports done after her son's death shows the medication had metatcisized in his system after taking the pills earlier in the week when his wisdom teeth were removed.
"It’s the most horrendous, deplorable untrue thing that could ever happen," she adds.
McGeough was based at Ft. Campbell when he was killed. The driver who hit him hasn't been charged.
