The movie "God's Not Dead 2" premiered in Franklin, and brought together actors, directors, musicians and supporters of the project.
A red carpet event was held before the movie was shown at the Franklin Theatre.
"When your peers, and people you work with you know and love, are doing something that can be a world changer, you want to be a part of it, and say I was there," said Chonda Pierce, who attended the premiere.
The movie stars Melissa Joan Hart, Jesse Metcalf, Sadie Robertson, among others. It tells the story of a high school teacher discussing Jesus in her classroom. After answering a student's question, she faces a court case that could end her career.
The original "God's Not Dead" movie was one of the largest-grossing faith based films ever, earning more than $60 million at the box office in 2014. It featured an appearance by the group Newsboys and featured their song of the same name.
The Newsboys also make a special appearance in the sequel, and contributed the theme song. On the red carpet, members said fans won't be disappointed with the movie.
“As far as the art side, it is better,” said Duncan Phillips from Newsboys. “It is better. The script is better, the acting is better and it looks better. That is what we are striving for. We are striving for excellence in what we do.”
The movie premiered in Los Angeles last weekend. It will open nationwide Friday, Apr. 1.
