MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — Middle Tennessee State University raised thousands of dollars and sent relief to Hurricane Dorian victims in the Bahamas.
President Sidney McPhee has returned from his home country after traveling there to help the many victims left in the wake of the devastating hurricane.
Sadly, McPhee lost his niece in the storm and dozens of his students at MTSU are from the Bahamas.
He and other school leaders flew two planes to Freeport, in the Bahamas, with more than 3,000 pounds of supplies.
"To see the destruction from the air, and then being on the ground, and actually witnessing firsthand the absolute devastation...There's nothing like what has occurred in the Bahamas I can compare it to. It is like four atomic bombs going off," said McPhee.
If you'd like to help out, it's not too late. You can give by texting "RAIDER RELIEF" to 41444.
