COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WTVF) — More than 50 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Tennessee. And health officials as well as President Trump have asked the public to not gather in groups larger than ten people to help Prevent the spread of the virus.
In response, officials in Maury County and Columbia cancelled Mule Day, which was set for April 2-5.
Organizers released the following statement on social media:
"In accordance with the recommendations of the CDC and state government regarding COVID-19, Maury County Bridle and Saddle Club, the organizers for the annual Mule Day celebration and parade, along with the City of Columbia and Maury County government have made a joint, vital decision to cancel this year’s Mule Day April 2nd-5th."
The information was also released during a press conference Monday afternoon in which County officials gave an update to the COVID-19 response.
Maury Regional Health has an information line operating daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST: 931-540-4257.
And Maury County Director of Schools Chris Marczak said schools will be closed through April 13.
"All plays, athletics, and after/before school activities are cancelled. We will get out food distribution info this week. Meals will be pick up only and children 18yrs and younger need to be present."
County offices were also closed until next month, but they can be reached by phone or online.
